Ladies and gentlemen, Nate S!

What inspired you to start playing the drums?

Music had been a significant part of my life for a long time, but through complacency and inattention I’d slowly let it recede into the background. What was needed was a good point of reentry, and attempting to learn a new instrument has provided just that and more.

What is your favorite kind of music to play?

Rock, Funk, and Hip-Hop.

What are some of your drumming goals?

One oft-repeated line is to become “the kind of drummer other people want to play with”, and so trying to hone that kind of conscientiousness is crucial. All other goals, such as achieving four limb independence with respect to dynamics, fall under that umbrella.

What are some of the coolest things you have learned at your drum lessons?

You get to learn something cool each and every lesson, especially if you’re already coming from a non-percussion background. Drumming gives me all new ways of approaching old problems, even problems I didn’t know I had.

If you could play drums with any band, which would you choose?

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Weezer, so if the great Pat Wilson were ever in need of a quick break I’d be more than happy to sit in.
