We are going to conclude working on our independence against the jazz ride pattern; this time using paradiddle variations (here is part 3). We get the variations by moving the first note of the paradiddle to the end of the pattern. The stickings for the 4 variations are as follows.

1. R L R R – L R L L
2. L R R L – R L L R (reverse this one to start with the right)
3. R R L R – L L R L
4. R L R L – L R L R

Here we go. Let’s phrase these paradiddle variations as eighth note triplets. Since our right hand is playing the ride cymbal and our left foot is on the hi-hat, this leaves our right foot and left hand to play the pattern (for drummers playing on a lefty kit, just reverse it).
